Why it helps to shop by range

Curtain poles are generally sold as ranges rather than as single products. A range is a family that shares diameters, finials, brackets and finishes so that the parts are designed to work together.

That matters more than it sounds. Choosing a range first settles the accessories at the same time, and it is the accessories, the brackets, the corner parts, the passing rings, that decide whether an awkward window works.

Pole and hardware ranges

These are the ranges we group under shop by brand.

Origins is a wood pole range, and the painted wood finishes described on the finishes page come from it.

The other ranges we group here are Neo Original & Premium, Arc, Eden, Museum, Ashbridge, Modern Country, Honister & Woodline, G2 & Galleria, Galleria Metals, Ascot, Calypso, Eternity, Grace, Prairie, Opulent and Antoinette.

These ranges are made in Britain, and between them they cover wood and metal poles in the diameters we stock: 19mm, 25mm, 28mm, 35mm and 45mm. Each range brings its own finials, brackets, rings and finishes, designed to be used with each other rather than mixed across ranges.

We have not written a paragraph on each range here, because the useful answer depends on your window rather than on the range name. If you already know the range you need, use the links above. If you do not, it is usually quicker to work from the window, and we will tell you which ranges suit it.

If you do not know the range name

Most people arrive with a window rather than a brand. Start from material and work in: wood poles or metal poles, then narrow by finish on the finishes page. If you are replacing an existing pole and need parts to match, tell us what you have and we will try to identify the range.

Track systems

Silent Gliss is a manufacturer of curtain track systems rather than decorative poles. Tracks are the answer where the hardware should disappear, where the window is a difficult shape, or where a pole would not clear the reveal.

See Silent Gliss and the wider curtain tracks collection. Their track systems are supplied cut to size, so tell us the finished length you need. For a bay, send the measurement of each section and the angles between them, and the track is bent to order to fit it.

Fabric

On the soft side, we stock furnishing fabrics from Ashley Wilde. There is more on the Ashley Wilde fabrics page, and the full fabric offer is set out on the fabrics page.

What a range name does not settle

Picking a range narrows the look and the parts. It does not, on its own, decide the two things most likely to cause trouble later.

The first is diameter. A wider pole carries a heavier curtain more comfortably and reads as a heavier line above the window, so it is a decision about the room as well as about the load. The second is support: a long span or a heavy interlined curtain needs adequate bracketing, and that is worth working out before you order rather than on the day of fitting.

Matching parts to an existing range

Ranges are not interchangeable. Rings, brackets and finials from one range will not always fit the pole from another, even at the same diameter, and a part that is nearly right is worse than no part at all.

If you are adding to something already fitted, send us a photograph and a measurement of the pole diameter before ordering. Contact us and we will check compatibility.

Not sure which range you need

If you are choosing hardware and curtains together, it is worth doing both at once so the finish, the fabric weight and the support all agree. A free design consultation covers the whole window rather than one part of it.
