Poles & Curtains is British made. Your curtains are made to measure in our own workroom in Cambridge, and the poles and tracks we sell are made in Britain by UK manufacturers.

Those are two different claims, and it is worth being clear about which is which. A shop that runs them together is usually hoping you will not ask. This page sets out what we make, what we buy in, and the one thing we will not claim either way.

Curtains: made to measure in our Cambridge workroom

Every made-to-measure pair we sell is cut and made in Cambridge, to the width, drop, heading and lining specified for your window. Nothing is trimmed to fit afterwards and nothing is hemmed on the day.

Making them ourselves is the reason we can be specific with you rather than general. Interlining under a heavy face fabric, a fullness other than the standard for your heading, a drop that has to allow for a floor that is not level: those are conversations with the people who will actually make the curtains, not messages passed along a supply chain and answered a week later.

It also means that if something needs putting right, it comes back to the bench it was made on. Allow around three to four weeks from order confirmation, and see made-to-measure curtains for how a pair is specified and what the returns position is on work made to your own measurements.

Poles and tracks: made in Britain

The pole and track ranges we stock are made in Britain by UK manufacturers who supply the window furnishing trade. We say made in Britain about them. We do not say made by us, because we do not make them, and the difference matters if you are trying to work out who stands behind a product.

Buying whole ranges from British makers has a practical benefit beyond origin. A pole is a system rather than a single object: the tube, the brackets, the rings and the finial all have to belong together, and buying by the range is what makes that work rather than luck. It is also why we can tell you whether a bracket will fit a pole you already own, instead of guessing from a photograph.

Browse curtain poles and curtain tracks, or see the ranges on the brands page and in the shop by brand collection.

Fabric: where we stop short

We make no origin claim about the fabric itself, and we would be sceptical of anyone who does without explaining what they mean by it. Ashley Wilde, whose collections we stock, is a British furnishing fabric house. Where any particular cloth is woven is a separate question, and it is not one we are going to answer with a guess.

What we can tell you about a fabric is the collection it belongs to, its composition and its care, all of which are on that fabric's product page. The Ashley Wilde fabrics page covers the range, and the fabrics pages list what is currently available.

Why this matters to your window

Origin is not a badge on this site. It is the reason the advice is worth having.

Because the curtains are made here, we know what a specification will do before it is made, and we will tell you when the one you have chosen is going to disappoint you. Because the hardware comes from British ranges we buy in full, we know what fits what, and we can say so without checking.

That is the part you can test for yourself. Ask us a difficult question about your own window and see whether the answer is specific.

Ask us about your window

The free design consultation is where all of this becomes practical. Tell us the room, the window and what you want the curtains to do, and we will work through fabric, lining, heading and hardware with you before you commit to anything.

If you would rather ask one direct question, get in touch, and about us explains who you are dealing with.
